Why PPF

What PPF Does for Your Vehicle

Rock Chip Protection

Absorbs the impact of road debris before it reaches your paint. The film takes the hit so your finish doesn't.

Self-Healing Technology

Minor scratches and swirl marks disappear on their own with heat from the sun or warm water — the film literally heals itself.

UV Protection

Blocks UV rays that cause paint oxidation and fading, keeping your vehicle's color vivid for years longer.

Preserves Resale Value

A chip-free, scratch-free finish commands a higher resale price. PPF pays for itself when it's time to sell or trade in.

Before Your Appointment

Getting Ready for Your PPF Appointment

Plan to drop it off

Most PPF jobs take 4 to 8+ hours, and larger jobs like full front coverage may stay overnight. We’ll confirm timing with you when we confirm your appointment.

Wash it, but skip the wax

Bring your vehicle washed. Don’t apply wax, sealants, spray detailers or ceramic coatings in the days before your appointment — LLumar notes these can keep the film from bonding to the paint. We do the final surface prep in the shop.

Tell us about any paint work

LLumar PPF is designed for original factory paint. Let us know about repainted, repaired or touched-up panels. Fresh paint needs about 30 days to cure before film can go on, and film over repainted or aftermarket paint isn’t covered by LLumar’s warranty.

Point out existing chips and scratches

PPF protects your paint from new damage, but it doesn’t repair chips or deep scratches that are already there. Those may still be visible under the film.

After Your Appointment

PPF Aftercare

Your LLumar Valor film and its ceramic coating are built to make upkeep easy. A little care, especially in the first few weeks, keeps them looking their best and keeps your 12-year warranty protected.

Wait before the first wash

Don’t wash or wax your vehicle for at least 3 days after installation, or at least 7 days if the average daily temperature is below 55°F.

Some haze is normal

The film can take up to 30 days to fully cure. Slight haze or small moisture spots during that time are normal. Don’t pick at the edges.

Hand wash only

Use car-wash soap, water and a soft, clean microfiber mitt or cloth. A pH-neutral car soap is gentlest on the film and the ceramic coating. Dry with a soft microfiber towel.

Skip automatic car washes and pressure washers

LLumar advises against automatic car washes and against spraying film edges with a high-pressure nozzle, steam or a power washer. They can lift the film, and lifting caused this way isn’t covered by warranty. If you rinse with a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least 12–18 inches away and never aim it at the film’s edges.

Remove bird droppings, bugs and tree sap quickly

Soak them with warm, soapy water and wipe gently with a soft microfiber towel. Don’t scrub or scrape.

No abrasives or harsh chemicals

Avoid polishing or rubbing compounds, scouring pads, stiff brushes, and harsh solvents or degreasers. LLumar’s warranty doesn’t cover damage from abrasive or unapproved cleaners.

Ask before adding products on top

Your PPF already has a ceramic coating, so it doesn’t need regular waxing. Before you add any wax, sealant or other coating, ask us. LLumar’s warranty doesn’t allow coatings or clear coats other than wax or ceramic coating.

Let it heal

Light surface scratches and swirl marks fade with heat — sunshine, warm water or a warm engine. Deeper scratches and cuts won’t self-heal.

Winter tip

Rinse off road salt and sand regularly during Rochester winters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is paint protection film (PPF)?

Paint protection film is a clear, self-healing urethane film applied to your vehicle's painted surfaces. It protects against rock chips, scratches, bug splatter, and road debris while remaining virtually invisible.

How long does paint protection film last?

LLumar paint protection film comes with a 12-year warranty against yellowing, cracking, and delamination. With proper care, PPF can protect your vehicle's paint for the life of the film.

What is the difference between partial front and full vehicle PPF?

Partial front coverage protects the most vulnerable areas — hood, front fenders, mirrors, and front bumper — from road debris. Full vehicle coverage wraps every painted panel for complete protection. We can help you choose the right level for your vehicle and budget.

Does your PPF include a ceramic coating?

Yes. Our Valor paint protection film installs include a ceramic coating and are backed by a 12-year manufacturer warranty.

Do I need to drop my vehicle off for paint protection film?

Usually, yes. Most PPF jobs take 4 to 8+ hours, and larger jobs like full front coverage may stay overnight. We’ll confirm timing with you when we confirm your appointment.

How should I prep my vehicle for PPF?

Bring it washed, and don’t apply wax, sealants or ceramic coatings beforehand — they can keep the film from bonding. Let us know about any repainted or repaired panels, since LLumar PPF is designed for original factory paint.

How do I care for my paint protection film?

Wait at least 3 days before washing (7 days if it’s below 55°F). Then hand wash with car soap, water and a soft microfiber mitt. Skip automatic car washes, keep pressure washers away from the film’s edges, remove bird droppings and bugs quickly, and avoid abrasive polishes and harsh chemicals. Light scratches self-heal with heat from the sun or warm water.

Does the price include sales tax?

No. Prices are before 8% sales tax. Your deposit is applied to your total and the balance, plus tax, is due at your appointment.
